UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

In June 2012, Maryland's unemployment rate was 6.9%, up from 6.8% in May, yet still nearly 20 percent lower than the national average of 8.2%. Maryland's February rate of 6.5% was the lowest rate since February 2009. Despite national economic stresses, employers in professional and business services, education and health services, and leisure and hospitality reported employment gains over the past year.
