Report to Governor & General Assembly due Dec. 31, 2012.

The Task Force to Study High-School Dropout Rates of Persons in the Criminal Justice System was created in June 2011 (Chapter 286, Acts of 2011).

The Task Force charge is to study what fiscal impact high-school dropouts have on the criminal justice system, and the high-school dropout statistics of persons who have been incarcerated, arrested, or were processed through the criminal justice system. For this study, the Task Force obtains current statistical data from the Department of Juvenile Services on the percentage of young people served by the Department who have dropped out of high school, and statistics from the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation on adult dropouts. The Task Force then will recommend how to keep students in high school until graduation; continuing education options for persons who do not get a high school diploma while incarcerated; and how to inform these persons of alternative high-school education or work-related programs.

Authorization for the Task Force ends May 31, 2013.
