Formed in October 2000, the Oversight Committee on Quality of Care in Nursing Homes became the Oversight Committee on Quality of Care in Nursing Homes and Assisted-Living Facilities on October 1, 2005 (Chapter 216, Acts of 2000; Chapter 400, Acts of 2005). The Committee evaluates progress in improving the quality of nursing home and assisted-living facility care statewide.

From the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Deputy Secretary of Health Care Financing reports annually to the Committee on the status of the Medicaid Nursing Home Reimbursement System. Annually, the Office of Health Care Quality in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene also reports to the Committee on implementation of the recommendations of the Task Force on Quality of Care in Nursing Facilities, and the status of quality of care in nursing homes. In the process of reviewing these reports, the Committee develops further proposals on how to improve nursing home care (Code Health-General Article, sec. 19-1409).
